According to the Bible book of Samuel, the Ark was once placed in Ashdod, Israel, in the temple of Dagon.  The next morning Dagon was found prostrate before it; one morning later, he was found prostrate and broken.  Then the people of Ashdod were smitten with boils and a plague of mice.  Many associate the Ark with judgment and wrath.  But symbologists see the ark as a mirror into the very best of us, an object of great power.  Take a look at the unique symbolism and mythology around Dagon, his temple, and the Ark of the Covenant, and examine the many, varied artistic renderings of the Ark.

This talk was designed to be a destination talk for Ashdod, Israel.  It could also be a nice enrichment talk for Israel in general.
